Assi Ghat
Subah-e-Banaras, yoga and kulhad chai. The calmest mornings in the city are found here.
About

Assi Ghat sits at the southern end of the ghat line, where the small Assi river once met the Ganga. Pilgrims traditionally bathe here before worshipping at the Shiva lingam under the peepal tree.
Every morning, 'Subah-e-Banaras' brings a sunrise aarti, live classical music and yoga to the ghat. It's one of the most peaceful ways to start a day in the city.
Close to Banaras Hindu University, Assi is also the city's student hangout, with cafes, bookshops and chai stalls that stay busy late into the evening.

Don't miss
- Subah-e-Banaras sunrise programme
- Morning boat ride to Manikarnika
- Kulhad chai and cafes
- Smaller evening aarti
Travel tips
- Reach before sunrise; the light on the river is magical.
- Shared boats from Assi to Manikarnika are cheaper if you're alone.
- Many guest houses are nearby, so it's a good base for your stay.
