Durga Kund Temple
A striking red temple of Goddess Durga beside a large sacred pond, especially lively during Navratri.
About
The Durga Kund temple was built in the 18th century by Rani Bhabani of Bengal. Painted in deep red to honour the goddess, it is built in the North Indian Nagara style with a tall, layered spire.
Beside the temple lies the Durga Kund, a large stone-stepped tank that gives the area its name. The view of the red temple reflected in the water is especially beautiful in the evening.
During both Navratris, and on Tuesdays and Saturdays, the temple is packed with devotees, and a fair-like atmosphere fills the streets around it.
