Sankat Mochan Temple
An ancient Hanuman temple linked to Tulsidas. Tuesdays and Saturdays are the busiest.
About
Sankat Mochan, 'the reliever of troubles', is one of the most loved Hanuman temples in India. It is believed to have been founded by Goswami Tulsidas, author of the Ramcharitmanas, at the spot where he had a vision of Hanuman.
The temple sits in a leafy compound full of monkeys. Hanuman faces his Lord Ram, whose shrine stands opposite. The besan laddoo prasad sold here is famous across the city.
Every April around Hanuman Jayanti, the temple hosts the Sankat Mochan Sangeet Samaroh, where top classical musicians perform through the night for free.
Don't miss
- Besan laddoo prasad
- Evening aarti and Hanuman Chalisa

Travel tips
