Dashashwamedh Ghat
The most famous ghat for the evening Ganga Aarti. Arrive well before the aarti to get a good spot.
About
Dashashwamedh is the busiest and most alive ghat in Banaras. According to legend, Lord Brahma performed ten Ashwamedha yagyas here, which gives the ghat its name.
Every evening, young priests in saffron and gold perform the Ganga Aarti on wooden platforms facing the river. Conch shells, bells, chanting and huge brass lamps make it the most memorable 45 minutes of most trips.
During the day the ghat is a slice of everyday Banaras: pilgrims bathing, boatmen calling out, flower sellers and priests under their bamboo umbrellas.
